Summary

What’s special about Mount Psiloritis?

Mount Psiloritis, also known as Mount Ida, is the highest mountain of Crete and has been a physical and cultural reference point since ancient times. Located in the centre of the island, it is the place where – according to mythology – Zeus was raised, and where rebels have found refuge throughout numerous battles and wars. It is home to people and wildlife alike, and it is one of UNESCO‘s Global Geoparks, as a site of international geological significance.

What will I do on this tour?

On this tour, you will walk to the top of the mountain, walking through the bare landscapes of a natural park. We will start early in the morning and arrive at the starting point of the hiking path around 9.30. The path will start at 1700m and will end at 2456m, a 750m ascent! The walk will normally last 5 – 6 hours: 3,5 hours going up and another 2,5 hours going down. During our hike, expect to see unique landscapes, dominated by special rock formations, endemic plants and Cretan birds of prey.
